Catholic lay leaders are inviting the faithful to join a roughly two-kilometer Via Crucis through Intramuros during the annual “Penitential Walk for Life” on March 20, offering prayers for the protection of life.

The event, organized by the Council of the Laity of the Philippines, will gather families, parish groups and pro-life advocates for what organizers describe as “a prayer in action” and a public witness to the sanctity of human life.

Participants will assemble from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Baluarte Plano Luneta de Sta. Isabel before beginning the penitential walk at 4:30 p.m.

“Let us offer this walk as an intercession for the unborn, for the vulnerable, for those whose dignity is under attack, and for our country—that we may always be a people who value and uphold life according to God’s plan,” the organization said.

“This is more than a walk—it is our prayer in action, our sacrifice to the Lord, and our witness to the nation that life is sacred, life is precious, and life must be defended,” it added.

The Via Crucis will wind through streets of the historic walled city, with participants praying the traditional Stations of the Cross while offering intentions “for the unborn, for the vulnerable, and for those whose dignity is under attack.”

Organizers said the walk aims to be “an afternoon of faith, sacrifice and solidarity for life,” reminding the faithful that “life is sacred, life is precious, and life must be defended.”

The penitential procession will conclude with Mass and an inspirational talk at Manila Cathedral from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“Walk. Pray. Stand for life,” organizers said, urging participants not to “remain on the sidelines” but instead “show up and walk with courage and faith.”
